On trouve ces jours-ci sur Internet une pétition, présumée émaner des Cowboys Fringants, et qui demande au ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec (MELS) de surseoir à son projet de « bannir les options [artistiques] des horaires de cours du secondaire ». Le MELS n’a jamais professé une telle intention et la pétition est probablement apocryphe. Mais plusieurs l’auront sans doute signée, notamment pour deux raisons qui la rendent crédible.

La première est le fait que, depuis que Platon a banni les poètes de sa cité idéale, les arts ont partout et toujours tendu à être le parent pauvre des curriculum : les signataires se sont donc probablement dit, non sans raison, qu’il n’y aurait rien d’étonnant à ce que notre époque d’utilitarisme pressé envisage le complet bannissement des arts à l’école.
