Les objets de plastique amass\u00e9s, class\u00e9s et organis\u00e9s par l\u2019artiste se voient revaloris\u00e9s par l\u2019arrangement spatial et les compositions esth\u00e9tiques bien au-del\u00e0 de leur valeur mat\u00e9rielle. L\u2019artiste transforme ainsi, par son geste ordonn\u00e9 et syst\u00e9matique, la surench\u00e8re effr\u00e9n\u00e9e du jetable en des art\u00e9facts de notre civilisation.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Compos\u00e9es de pots de plastique remplis de petits accessoires, de jouets et de d\u00e9chets aussi de plastique color\u00e9, <em>Colonne <\/em>(2010-2019) et <em>Pyramid (The Grand Scheme of Things) <\/em>(2019) dominent le centre de l\u2019espace. Les imposantes structures multicolores emploient le charme ludique des coloris et de leur agencement pour couvrir le drame m\u00eame de leur existence. L\u2019organisation chromatique des objets fait \u00e9cho au tri m\u00e9ticuleux de l\u2019artiste comme un appel \u00e0 l\u2019ordre dans un chaos exponentiel de plastique. En empruntant aux formes caract\u00e9ristiques des vestiges des antiquit\u00e9s \u00e9gyptiennes et gr\u00e9co-romaines, ces sculptures confrontent aussi l\u2019indestructibilit\u00e9 de leur mati\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019impermanence de la culture qui les a produites. Maclean pose alors la consommation et le gaspillage comme pierres angulaires de notre \u00e8re. <em>T.A.R.P. <\/em>et <em>C.A.S.H. <\/em>(2019) \u00e9voquent \u00e0 ce titre l\u2019amalgame vert de l\u2019argent, de l\u2019\u00e9cologie, de la guerre et du plein air en pr\u00e9sentant de la b\u00e2che peinte en vert ou \u00e0 motif de camouflage d\u00e9coup\u00e9e et empil\u00e9e comme le seraient des billets de banque. La p\u00e9rennit\u00e9 du mat\u00e9riau s\u2019oppose \u00e0 la volatilit\u00e9 des march\u00e9s et \u00e0 la friabilit\u00e9 de l\u2019environnement dans un \u00e9quilibre pr\u00e9caire d\u00e9peint par la r\u00e9clame faussement all\u00e8gre \u00ab WHILE SUPPLIES LAST \u00bb de la toile <em>Panneau de vente (While Supplies Last) <\/em>(2020). Subordonn\u00e9e \u00e0 la constance de ses sources de revenus, mais, paradoxalement, sourde et aveugle \u00e0 leur in\u00e9vitable \u00e9puisement, l\u2019euphorie industrielle parfait son \u0153uvre commerciale avec une d\u00e9concertante exaltation que s\u2019emploie \u00e0 souligner Maclean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pain quotidien \/ Daily Bread <\/em>(2005-2019) exacerbe cette tension entre le temps qui passe, la disponibilit\u00e9 des ressources et les r\u00e9sidus permanents de leur consommation en reproduisant un calendrier annuel complet \u00e0 partir d\u2019attaches \u00e0 pain en plastique dat\u00e9es. Le titre lui-m\u00eame r\u00e9f\u00e8re autant \u00e0 la pri\u00e8re et aux croyances qu\u2019aux besoins primaires. La p\u00e9rennit\u00e9 du vivant est effectivement tributaire de la r\u00e9p\u00e9tition du geste alimentaire \u00e9loquemment illustr\u00e9e par la douzaine d\u2019it\u00e9rations de vingt-huit \u00e0 trente-et-une attaches. Toutefois, la subsistance se lie aussi insidieusement \u00e0 une certaine candeur superstitieuse. Qu\u2019importe le culte, les attaches survivront non seulement \u00e0 l\u2019aliment, mais aussi \u00e0 celui qu\u2019il nourrit. Les compositions pastel d\u2019attaches soigneusement dispos\u00e9es embellissent ainsi la nonchalante trag\u00e9die environnementale qui sous-tend la vie quotidienne. <em>Arts plastiques <\/em>\u00e9vite cependant d\u2019exalter toute anxi\u00e9t\u00e9 catastrophiste pour mettre en lumi\u00e8re le travail patient de la r\u00e9habilitation des d\u00e9bris de plastique.
