La commissaire Zo\u00eb Chan rassemble \u00e0 cet effet les \u0153uvres vid\u00e9os de cinq artistes dont l\u2019approche m\u00e9diatique marque cette transcription spectaculaire de l\u2019ordinaire. Outil familier de documentation, de distraction ou d\u2019invention, la vid\u00e9o traverse les champs amateurs et professionnels de l\u2019image. Elle incarne en ce sens une forme extraordinaire de banalit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chan se pr\u00eate d\u2019embl\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019exercice performatif en int\u00e9grant \u00e0 l\u2019exposition son processus de recherche au moyen de chemises de classement r\u00e9unissant entrevues, notes ou <em>storyboard<\/em> propres \u00e0 chaque \u0153uvre. Les documents lient l\u2019exposition \u00e0 son d\u00e9veloppement et s\u2019inspirent directement de <em>Twin Twin Peaks<\/em> (2010) de Helen Reed, une reconstitution amateur d\u2019un \u00e9pisode de la l\u00e9gendaire s\u00e9rie <em>Twin Peaks<\/em>. Jou\u00e9 et soutenu par un groupe de fans, le projet associe \u00e0 l\u2019esth\u00e9tique <em>Do&nbsp;It Yourself<\/em> un enjeu communautaire. Reed expose en parall\u00e8le de la vid\u00e9o la documentation inh\u00e9rente \u00e0 sa production et r\u00e9v\u00e8le les r\u00e9seaux d\u2019entraide et d\u2019\u00e9change qui ont men\u00e9 \u00e0 sa r\u00e9alisation finale. Les entreprises volontaires de l\u2019\u0153uvre et du document manifestent ainsi la sinc\u00e9rit\u00e9 du jeu narratif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette r\u00e9alit\u00e9 qui se livre par le truchement fantaisiste de la fiction approfondit chez Lisa Jackson et May Truong une perspective plus dramatique. <em>Savage<\/em> (2009) de Jackson \u00e9voque le drame des pensionnats autochtones \u00e0 travers la s\u00e9paration traumatisante d\u2019une m\u00e8re et de sa fille. Les emprunts \u00e0 la culture populaire recouvrent le r\u00e9cit r\u00e9aliste d\u2019une dimension psychotronique et soulignent l\u2019importante dislocation identitaire sugg\u00e9r\u00e9e par la figure du zombie. Les r\u00e9f\u00e9rents factuels et spectaculaires de <em>Savage<\/em> incarnent les glissements parfois d\u00e9shumanisants de la traduction narrative du r\u00e9el que <em>The Outsiders<\/em> (2016) tente justement de renverser. Truong reprend avec une distribution non professionnelle enti\u00e8rement f\u00e9minine et asiatique le populaire film de Francis Ford Coppola. La man\u0153uvre exalte les enjeux humains du r\u00e9cit et affirme leur universalit\u00e9. L\u2019exp\u00e9rience des interpr\u00e8tes se fond dans celle des personnages de sorte que la fiction \u00e9nonce la r\u00e9alit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La performativit\u00e9 quotidienne s\u2019exprime avec \u00e9loquence dans <em>Transports \u00e0 dos d\u2019hommes<\/em> (2012) de Bertille Bak. L\u2019artiste traduit par de br\u00e8ves sayn\u00e8tes les d\u00e9fis et combats ordinaires des communaut\u00e9s roms bas\u00e9es en banlieue parisienne. L\u2019approche romanc\u00e9e et anecdotique autorise un portait presque ludique de conditions de vie aussi singuli\u00e8res que pr\u00e9caires. Feint, le r\u00e9el rev\u00eat une forme \u00e9trangement all\u00e9gorique sond\u00e9e notamment par <em>Pulpo<\/em> (2011) de Yoshua Ok\u00f3n. Des migrants guat\u00e9malt\u00e8ques miment dans le stationnement d\u2019un Home Depot les gestes qui ont marqu\u00e9 leur exp\u00e9rience de la guerre civile de 1990. Les clivages s\u2019activant entre les vies jou\u00e9es et celles que l\u2019on observe se t\u00e9lescopent dans la brutalit\u00e9 tragicomique de la reconstitution. La simulation injecte au drame v\u00e9cu une part calcul\u00e9e de ridicule, d\u00e9jouant ainsi le man\u00e8ge de la d\u00e9personnalisation au profit d\u2019une conscience renouvel\u00e9e de l\u2019autre.
