La premi\u00e8re partie du livre rassemble cinq essais contextuels qui tracent des parall\u00e8les th\u00e9matiques et th\u00e9oriques entre une multitude de pratiques performatives. T. L. Cowan, Carla Taunton, Christof Migone, cheyanne turions et Andrea Thompson y \u00e9tudient ce r\u00e9pertoire diversifi\u00e9 sous de f\u00e9condes perspectives telles que le cabaret, l\u2019art audio, la performance pour la cam\u00e9ra et le <em>spoken word<\/em>, ainsi que l\u2019art des femmes autochtones. La deuxi\u00e8me partie r\u00e9unit vingt-neuf portraits individuels, de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 souligner plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment la pertinence des contributions des femmes au sein d\u2019une histoire de l\u2019art contemporain canadien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remarquable travail de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence sur l\u2019art performance, <em>More Caught in the Act<\/em> met en exergue le r\u00f4le significatif de ces femmes autant sur la sc\u00e8ne artistique que dans un plus vaste commentaire social et politique. Il y a, \u00e0 la fois dans la m\u00e9thodologie et le contenu du compendium, un rapport profond\u00e9ment humain qui s\u2019\u00e9loigne d\u2019une \u00e9criture soi-disant neutre, encore trop souvent per\u00e7ue comme le pr\u00e9requis d\u2019un discours critique ou documentaire. Cette trame subjective rafraichit autant qu\u2019elle informe, empreinte d\u2019une sensibilit\u00e9 qui se retrouve justement au c\u0153ur du geste performatif. La publication parvient habilement \u00e0 faire \u00e9tat du caract\u00e8re mouvant et contingent de la performance, sans tenter de le fixer et en \u00e9vitant toute normalisation. Elle offre un contact approfondi et color\u00e9 avec la substance de cet art et ouvre un espace de r\u00e9flexion n\u00e9cessaire autour d\u2019enjeux d\u00e9cisifs pour cette communaut\u00e9 de la performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ainsi, on traverse d\u2019abord des mises en contexte inter-reli\u00e9es qui investissent les strat\u00e9gies \u00e9labor\u00e9es par les artistes. Parsem\u00e9s de descriptions et d\u2019images, les essais racontent l\u2019exp\u00e9rience pour mieux l\u2019ins\u00e9rer dans un tissage ind\u00e9fini qui prend forme au gr\u00e9 des auteur.e.s. Puis vient se glisser de mani\u00e8re organique un prodigieux dossier dans lequel sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es, l\u2019une \u00e0 la suite de l\u2019autre, des pratiques \u00e9vocatrices de la profondeur de l\u2019objet d\u2019\u00e9tude. Au moyen de courts textes rythm\u00e9s d\u2019images, on d\u00e9couvre un profil qui, s\u2019il se veut informatif de l\u2019\u0153uvre, r\u00e9v\u00e8le aussi la relation entre l\u2019auteur.e et le sujet. Consciencieusement r\u00e9dig\u00e9es par leurs coll\u00e8gues artistes, les compositions attestent de l\u2019aspect collectif saillant du r\u00e9seau de la performance canadienne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C\u2019est par le pouvoir de l\u2019\u00e9ventail que <em>More Caught in the Act <\/em>r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 traduire en mots cette synergie distinctive\u2009; c\u2019est par le nombre que la publication sonde l\u2019ind\u00e9finissable. L\u2019apport ph\u00e9nom\u00e9nal de ces femmes, sous-repr\u00e9sent\u00e9es dans l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art, y est dispos\u00e9 au premier plan. R\u00e9agissant \u00e0 la marginalisation, les femmes \u00e9crivent leur propre histoire.
