Au centre de la pi\u00e8ce, <em>Jiimaan<\/em> (vid\u00e9o, 2015) pr\u00e9sente des \u00e9l\u00e9ments issus de la performance \u00e9ponyme r\u00e9alis\u00e9e durant la Biennale de Venise, soit une double projection vid\u00e9o (avec et sans public) et les objets que l\u2019artiste y manipule. Face \u00e0 son public, l\u2019artiste \u00e9tablit son territoire et arpente le patio v\u00e9nitien, un canot de feutre sur le dos. Symbole de la culture Ojibwe dont elle se r\u00e9clame, l\u2019objet enracine ses gestes dans l\u2019imaginaire d\u2019un rituel teint\u00e9 d\u2019ironie, car le spectateur ne peut que sp\u00e9culer sur sa nature v\u00e9ritable. L\u2019artiste investit cet espace de n\u00e9gociation en s\u2019assurant la collaboration active de l&#8217;auditoire dont elle troque la participation contre des tokens, it\u00e9ration d\u2019un pacte historique. Au c\u0153ur de cette adresse se r\u00e9v\u00e8le le passage par lequel le corps de l\u2019artiste soutient la dimension critique du travail\u2009: son attitude, consistant \u00e0 se pr\u00eater avec force sourires aux regards et au jeu avec le public, contraste avec le mouvement g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la forme artistique qui fait subtilement \u00e9voluer les r\u00e9f\u00e9rents symboliques \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre, par un usage polymorphe de l\u2019espace et des r\u00f4les des participants. Son jeu recontextualise l\u2019espace commun, multiplie les mises \u00e0 distance et les points de vue sur la situation initiale\u2009: disparaissant dans le puits central du patio, Hupfield r\u00e9apparait verres en main, trinque avec le public, transformant l\u2019action collective en socialisation postvernissage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le style Hupfield dig\u00e8re ainsi le hic et nunc du continuum performatif au sein m\u00eame de l\u2019adh\u00e9sion de son public, dont elle red\u00e9finit constamment la nature de la collaboration. De quelle transaction s\u2019agit-il alors\u2009? L\u2019exposition intervient comme une r\u00e9ponse et un prolongement du geste performatif\u2009; les \u0153uvres dor\u00e9es qui composent <em>Trophy Wall<\/em> constituent les art\u00e9facts d\u2019une lutte aux titres \u00e9vocateurs (<em>Victory in Defeat<\/em>, <em>Stomach Knot<\/em>, 2015), tandis que le visiteur s\u2019assoit \u00ab\u2009\u00e0 sa place\u2009\u00bb sur un banc recouvert de feutre (<em>Wisdom Sits in Places<\/em>, 2015). Le vocabulaire de la colonisation, les tractations entre conqu\u00e9rants et autochtones apparaissent en filigrane, cependant que les \u0153uvres infiltrent la valeur des \u00e9changes qui pr\u00e9sident au syst\u00e8me de l\u2019art. Poursuivant cette int\u00e9gration au c\u0153ur des flux des transactions qui d\u00e9finissent les relations entre les cultures, Hupfield \u00e9tablit lors de la cession d\u2019\u0153uvres la possibilit\u00e9 de leur r\u00e9activation possible, suscitant de facto l\u2019adh\u00e9sion id\u00e9ologique des gardiens et promoteurs de son syst\u00e8me de production critique.
