Sous le titre subtilement insolent de <em>Common Grounds<\/em>, la commissaire Verena Hein invite donc \u00e0 repenser l\u2019approche esth\u00e9tique, sociale et politique de ce territoire coinc\u00e9 entre les g\u00e9n\u00e9ralit\u00e9s de l\u2019information et sa r\u00e9alit\u00e9 pour le moins fractur\u00e9e. L\u2019expositionrassemble ainsi une douzaine d\u2019artistes d\u2019origine moyen-orientale dont les diverses pratiques divergent, du sensationnalisme m\u00e9diatique au drame biographique afin d\u2019explorer les conditions de communication et d\u2019\u00e9change culturel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Common Grounds<\/em> d\u00e9voile l\u2019\u00e9cho des tensions territoriales dans le discours et les images. Ainsi, avec <em>The Story of a Pyromaniac Photographer<\/em>, Joana Hadjithomas et Khalil Joreige s\u2019int\u00e9ressent \u00e0 la pr\u00e9servation historique et \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire collective \u00e0 travers la pr\u00e9sentation du travail de Abdalah Farrah. Reconnu dans les ann\u00e9es 60 pour ses photos touristiques de Beyrouth, Farrah entreprend, parall\u00e8lement \u00e0 la guerre civile qui consume la ville, de bruler les n\u00e9gatifs des images qui ont fait sa gloire. Acte d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9 d\u2019aligner l\u2019image avec la r\u00e9alit\u00e9, les photos tir\u00e9es de ces n\u00e9gatifs illustrent la perte d\u2019une singularit\u00e9. La destruction romantique de l\u2019unique met un terme \u00e0 la m\u00e9diation frauduleuse d\u2019un espace disparu pour la r\u00e9v\u00e9lation d\u2019une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 autre et irr\u00e9solue. L\u2019installation <em>Lawless Lines<\/em> (2010) du collectif DAAR (Decolonising Architecture Art Residency) rend avec acuit\u00e9 ces modalit\u00e9s politiques, culturelles et sociales de l\u2019espace public. \u00c9voquant la partition de la Palestine par des lignes rouges sur diff\u00e9rents plans et cartes, DAAR confronte ce graphisme pr\u00e8s de l\u2019esth\u00e9tique des avant-gardes aux r\u00e9cits des civils. <em>Lawless Lines<\/em> mat\u00e9rialise la mutation d\u2019un fantasme de contr\u00f4le et de division en des fronti\u00e8res av\u00e9r\u00e9es. Le citoyen et l\u2019espace public deviennent ainsi les outils d\u2019une certaine d\u00e9territorialisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Common Grounds<\/em> \u00e9vite le sentimentalisme au profit d\u2019une r\u00e9flexion sur la segmentation et l\u2019appropriation du territoire. Le singulier condense et r\u00e9sume le collectif avec une conscience quasi documentaire. <em>Study for a Hanging Garden<\/em> (2014) de Abbas Akhavan use de cette finesse scientifique pour illustrer crument les conditions du partage territorial et de la dissolution de l\u2019\u00e9vidence culturelle qui en d\u00e9coule. Des reproductions en bronze de plantes indig\u00e8nes \u00e0 la r\u00e9gion circonscrite par l\u2019Euphrate et le Tigre sont expos\u00e9es semblables \u00e0 des corps exhum\u00e9s sur des draps de lin blanc. Tel un arch\u00e9ologue botaniste, Akhavan r\u00e9interpr\u00e8te la l\u00e9gende babylonienne de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 r\u00e9v\u00e9ler les fondements de l\u2019\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me identitaire d\u2019un peuple.
