Si j\u2019ai de l\u2019argent, j\u2019ai les moyens d\u2019\u00eatre moi. \u2013 L\u2019argent sauve l\u2019homme. \u2013 La pens\u00e9e de l\u2019argent est la seule pens\u00e9e&#8230; <\/em>Christophe Tarkos, po\u00e8te n\u00e9 \u00e0 Marseille, mort \u00e0 40 ans en 2004, aligne ces pr\u00e9ceptes dans un texte intitul\u00e9 <em>L\u2019Argent<\/em>. L\u2019artiste montr\u00e9alais \u00c9tienne de Massy les reprend tels des mantras dans <em>La valeur sublime<\/em>, une instal\u00adlation pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e au centre des arts Skol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Si la po\u00e9sie de Christophe Tarkos est un acte de d\u00e9construction p\u00e9rilleux qui tente d\u2019aboutir \u00e0 la lib\u00e9ration d\u2019une langue per\u00e7ue comme ali\u00e9n\u00e9e, au risque de l\u2019incompr\u00e9hension et du mutisme, l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat de l\u2019instal\u00adlation tient au fait d\u2019y avoir accol\u00e9 des images en tentant de conserver le c\u00f4t\u00e9 \u00ab\u2009mastication\u2009\u00bb dans la forme visuelle. Le po\u00e8me de trente pages est ici librement tronqu\u00e9 afin de faire r\u00e9sonner le mot <em>argent<\/em> comme un leitmotiv. Cette charge qui juxtapose l\u2019ironie \u00e0 l\u2019insolence, narr\u00e9e par De Massy lui-m\u00eame, nous entraine dans une exp\u00e9rience esth\u00e9tique hypnotique. La galerie, divis\u00e9e par une cloison, accueille sur le mur d\u2019une pi\u00e8ce un \u00e9cran g\u00e9ant et sur le sol de la pi\u00e8ce adjacente, un t\u00e9l\u00e9viseur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La premi\u00e8re vid\u00e9o pr\u00e9sente des images documentaires hyper\u00adl\u00e9ch\u00e9es, constitu\u00e9es d\u2019animations photonum\u00e9riques o\u00f9 se m\u00ealent des sc\u00e8nes de rue\u2009: alignements de forces polici\u00e8res, manifestations, foules et individus. De Massy r\u00e9pond par l\u2019image \u00e0 une invitation du po\u00e8te qui, lors de la premi\u00e8re \u00e9dition de <em>L\u2019Argent<\/em>, avait propos\u00e9 \u00e0 ses amis de le r\u00e9\u00e9crire enti\u00e8rement. Un acte de d\u00e9possession du langage dont De Massy prolonge la posture, en s\u2019invitant, dans une deuxi\u00e8me vid\u00e9o, \u00e0 reconstruire avec des images nouvelles ou \u00ab\u2009usag\u00e9es\u2009\u00bb un r\u00e9cit visuel compl\u00e8tement neuf. La trame sonore de la premi\u00e8re vid\u00e9o traverse l\u2019espace et vient se coller aux images muettes de la seconde, plus obs\u00e9dante encore, qui pr\u00e9sente un amalgame d\u2019images glan\u00e9es pendant sept ans par le photographe dans des villes europ\u00e9ennes riches, culturelles, bourgeoises. Le spectateur sera troubl\u00e9 de revoir des images d\u00e9j\u00e0 entrevues. L\u2019astuce d\u2019avoir situ\u00e9 cette pi\u00e8ce derri\u00e8re la premi\u00e8re sera de permettre \u00e0 la parole et au texte de Tarkos d\u2019influer al\u00e9atoirement sur notre lecture de ces images <em>randomis\u00e9es<\/em> \u00e0 l\u2019extr\u00eame. Autoportrait\u2009? Portrait d\u2019une ali\u00e9nation\u2009?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le travail du photographe et cin\u00e9aste \u00c9tienne de Massy fait ici sa premi\u00e8re incursion montr\u00e9alaise en galerie apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 dans de nombreux festivals\u2009: Mostra internationale di video e cinema oltre (Milan)\u2009; Vid\u00e9oformes (Clermont-Ferrand)\u2009; Internationales Kurzfilm Festival (Hambourg)\u2009; Interfilm (Berlin)\u2009; Viff (Vancouver)\u2009; Festival du nouveau cin\u00e9ma (Montr\u00e9al).
