Si sa peinture s\u2019est d\u2019abord affirm\u00e9e en revisitant les courants majeurs de l\u2019abstraction, de l\u2019expressionnisme, du color field et de l\u2019op art, comme si elle voulait en extraire l\u2019essence ou les motifs essentiels, elle se charge aujourd\u2019hui de formes plus d\u00e9coratives jusqu\u2019\u00e0 en contaminer le cadre, devenu son sujet principal. Ses toiles t\u00e9moignent de son int\u00e9r\u00eat pour les m\u00e9canismes de fabrication et d\u2019uniformisation du gout. <em>Mechanical Bride<\/em> (2018) s\u2019inspire plus particuli\u00e8rement d\u2019un ouvrage de Marshall McLuhan sur les effets de la publicit\u00e9, ouvrage qui lui-m\u00eame fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 <em>La Mari\u00e9e mise \u00e0 nu par ses c\u00e9libataires, m\u00eame<\/em> de Marcel Duchamp. La toile pr\u00e9sente des motifs isol\u00e9s, flottants, en proie \u00e0 une r\u00e9p\u00e9tition irr\u00e9guli\u00e8re, sur un fond d\u00e9grad\u00e9 produit par de grands gestes rapides. Ici, les c\u00e9libataires, fabriqu\u00e9s avant d\u2019\u00eatre peints avec des r\u00e9sidus de peinture, prennent l\u2019apparence d\u2019organes et d\u2019orifices couleur chair par\u00e9s de noirs luisants comme du latex ou du caoutchouc, telles des proth\u00e8ses issues d\u2019un film de David Cronenberg. Le tableau <em>Vegetable Lamb<\/em> (2019), construit \u00e0 partir du th\u00e8me folklorique de l\u2019agneau tartare \u2013 animal qui nait d\u2019une plante avant de d\u00e9p\u00e9rir et de renaitre \u00e0 l\u2019infini \u2013, constitue un tournant dans sa pratique. Le cadre du tableau devient un lieu de fourmillements exprimant le cycle du vivant.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Du vivant \u00e0 l\u2019ornement, il n\u2019y a qu\u2019un pas. La r\u00e9f\u00e9rence assum\u00e9e au registre d\u00e9coratif devient de plus en plus visible avec les <em>Frame Paintings<\/em>. S\u2019inspirant des motifs rococo du 18<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle et de ses teintes pastel, elle donne toute la place \u00e0 ce que l\u2019architecte et designer Adolf Loos qualifiait de \u00ab\u2009sensualit\u00e9 bestiale\u2009\u00bb dans sa critique de l\u2019ornement. La peinture de Vasey agit sensiblement comme une revanche sur cette ornementation que Loos consid\u00e9rait aussi comme un crime. Les bordures-cadres deviennent des sujets foisonnants et grouillants. Leurs motifs floraux, leurs entrelacs, semblent rejouer les d\u00e9cors en p\u00e2te \u00e0 sucre d\u2019un g\u00e2teau anglais aux tonalit\u00e9s doucereuses. Les coups de pinceau directs, amples et sans retenue qui servent \u00e0 construire les bords contrastent avec la facture plus lisse de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des toiles. Pichon\/<br>Le 19, Crac<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans certaines toiles, le d\u00e9grad\u00e9 l\u00e9ger de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur pourrait rappeler un soleil levant ou couchant, mais c\u2019est un vide abyssal qui nous absorbe. Le centre de la peinture apparait comme une fen\u00eatre ouverte sur le n\u00e9ant. Grands et petits formats se c\u00f4toient pour former une galerie de miroirs qui ne refl\u00e8tent rien, des vanit\u00e9s typiques de notre contemporan\u00e9it\u00e9, \u00ab\u2009vides\u2009\u00bb, nous renvoyant \u00e0 notre condition d\u2019\u00eatres humains. Les surfaces laiteuses v\u00e9hiculent une absence \u00e0 soi, une disparition de soi. Elles agissent comme la mise en attente d\u2019un sujet central qui n\u2019arrivera jamais.
