En effet, avec le poststructuralisme et les \u00e9tudes culturelles et visuelles, l\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019une vision d\u00e9centr\u00e9e est devenue un postulat dif\ufb01cile \u00e0 contourner. Or, comment penser aujourd\u2019hui l\u2019actualit\u00e9 des recherches men\u00e9es dans ces domaines, suivant l\u2019hypoth\u00e8se d\u2019un d\u00e9placement de l\u2019horizon critique et des th\u00e8mes dominants de l\u2019identit\u00e9 et de la diff\u00e9rence\u2009? Une r\u00e9ponse convaincante est donn\u00e9e par <em>Precarious Visualities<\/em>, un ouvrage collectif qui a la (trop rare) qualit\u00e9 de faire place \u00e0 une grande diversit\u00e9 de propositions sans que jamais le lecteur ne perde de vue la th\u00e8se qui les rassemble.&nbsp;<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Indissociable du \u00abtournant corporel\u00bb des \u00e9tudes visuelles discut\u00e9 par Christine Ross en introduction, cette th\u00e8se est que la \u00abpr\u00e9carit\u00e9\u00bb s\u2019af\ufb01rme \u00e0 pr\u00e9sent comme la condition contemporaine de l\u2019exp\u00e9rience esth\u00e9tique. Cependant, cette notion de \u00abpr\u00e9carit\u00e9\u00bb ne renvoie par \u00e0 un simple <em>\u00e9tat<\/em> \u2013 celui de l\u2019image instable ou du spectateur appr\u00e9hend\u00e9 dans sa \ufb01nitude et la faillibilit\u00e9 de ses fonctions sensorielles et cognitives. Si ces aspects entrent dans la d\u00e9\ufb01nition de la \u00abvisualit\u00e9 pr\u00e9caire\u00bb, c\u2019est plut\u00f4t en tant que <em>strat\u00e9gies<\/em> esth\u00e9tiques, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire comme des op\u00e9rations <em>productives<\/em> visant une complexi\ufb01cation du rapport entre le \u00abregardeur\u00bb et l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019art. La publication entend d\u00e9montrer, entre autres, que les pratiques contemporaines participent \u00e0 l\u2019invention de nouvelles sensibilit\u00e9s par l\u2019exploration d\u2019espaces incertains entre le sensible, le virtuel et l\u2019imaginaire \u2013 un questionnement qui, on le constate, se r\u00e9percute sur les approches des historiens de l\u2019art et des th\u00e9oriciens du visuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D\u2019embl\u00e9e, la division th\u00e9matique du volume (en six parties totalisant seize textes) met en lumi\u00e8re un arrimage int\u00e9ressant entre le caract\u00e8re proprement <em>esth\u00e9tique<\/em> de l\u2019art et ses enjeux culturels, sociaux et politiques. On notera \u00e0 cet \u00e9gard l\u2019importance accord\u00e9e au corps dans la r\u00e9\u00e9valuation des processus d\u2019identi\ufb01cation et des modes de subjectivit\u00e9, de m\u00eame que les nouveaux \u00abusages\u00bb de l\u2019autoportrait, con\u00e7u comme \u00abdispositif\u00bb \u00adperceptuel ou discursif (dans les textes de R. Bellour, J. Lamoureux et H. Samson). Plus surprenantes, toutefois, sont les \u00e9tudes qui traitent des m\u00e9dias et des \u00adnouvelles technologies dans leurs dimensions physique, charnelle&nbsp;et affective a\ufb01n de repenser \u00adl\u2019interface entre le visible et l\u2019invisible. Cet axe est privil\u00e9gi\u00e9 par Olivier Asselin et Amelia Jones, dont les essais, comme plusieurs, sont l\u2019occasion de stimulantes r\u00e9\ufb02exions philosophiques. On ne saurait \ufb01nalement passer sous silence la contribution originale d\u2019\u00c9ric Michaud, qui propose une lecture transhistorique du rapport entre la \u00abproduction\u00bb des images et la \u00abreproduction\u00bb biologique en Occident.
