Bien que la notion d\u2019anthropoc\u00e8ne issue des sciences naturelles ait fait l\u2019objet de nombreuses controverses ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es (certain\u00b7es auteur\u00b7es importants en sciences sociales, comme Jason&nbsp;W. Moore ou Andreas Malm, lui pr\u00e9f\u00e9rant celle plus pertinente et politique de capitaloc\u00e8ne), l\u2019auteure du livre consid\u00e8re que ce terme pr\u00e9sente l\u2019avantage de \u00ab&nbsp;traduire l\u2019amplitude d\u2019un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne et l\u2019intensit\u00e9 d\u2019un malaise bien partag\u00e9&nbsp;\u00bb. Pour des raisons de coh\u00e9rence et peut-\u00eatre de pr\u00e9f\u00e9rence, ne sont pas \u00e9tudi\u00e9es les \u0153uvres dites exp\u00e9rimentales qui envisagent les \u00e9l\u00e9ments naturels comme un m\u00e9dium ou encore les travaux proches du Land Art ou de l\u2019Arte Povera. Servi par une \u00e9criture fluide et \u00e9l\u00e9gante, le livre se structure autour de huit chapitres th\u00e9matiques clairement pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s. Y sont expos\u00e9es finement l\u2019analyse th\u00e9orique des enjeux li\u00e9s \u00e0 cette probl\u00e9matique et celle plus mat\u00e9rielle et sensible des \u0153uvres, appr\u00e9hend\u00e9es dans toute leur complexit\u00e9. Si l\u2019on regrette parfois l\u2019absence d\u2019une mise en perspective historique de l\u2019\u00e9mergence de ces questionnements chez les photographes contemporain\u00b7es (M\u00e9aux choisit en effet de ne pas adopter une approche g\u00e9n\u00e9alogique), cette structuration th\u00e9matique de l\u2019ouvrage offre la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019une mise en dialogue originale et parfois inattendue entre certaines \u0153uvres du corpus. Les analyses d\u00e9taill\u00e9es et argument\u00e9es prennent \u00e9galement en compte les conditions de production et de diffusion des images dans l\u2019\u00e9dition du livre et du site web ou encore dans l\u2019espace d\u2019exposition. Elles permettent de mieux comprendre la mani\u00e8re dont la photographie peut se faire \u00ab&nbsp;instance de pens\u00e9e critique et d\u2019acquisition de savoirs&nbsp;\u00bb. Li\u00e9e aux sciences humaines et sociales sans pour autant s\u2019y inf\u00e9oder, celle-ci fournit ainsi une compr\u00e9hension renouvel\u00e9e du monde et de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9.
