Si les enjeux li\u00e9s \u00e0 la repr\u00e9sentation des femmes sont toujours pr\u00e9dominants dans cette nouvelle production, l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat manifest\u00e9 par Reis pour la mythologie grecque a laiss\u00e9 place \u00e0 une r\u00e9flexion centr\u00e9e davantage sur les symboles propres au christianisme. <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019imagerie qui peuple la majorit\u00e9 des toiles ou dessins de l\u2019artiste provient de deux sources : l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art avec ses grands th\u00e8mes et l\u2019actualit\u00e9. Une oeuvre comme <em>Odalisque Back Side <\/em>(2008) \u2013 reprenant la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre silhouette anormalement allong\u00e9e de <em>La Grande Odalisque <\/em>(1814) d\u2019Ingres pour l\u2019affubler d\u2019une t\u00eate de lion, ce qui accentue son aspect grotesque \u2013, est r\u00e9alis\u00e9e la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e que <em>The Pig Farmer <\/em>(2008), asso-ci\u00e9e \u00e0 Robert Pickton. Une s\u00e9rie sur Karla Homolka (2007) et un portrait de Kenisha Berry (2009), m\u00e8re condamn\u00e9e pour infanticide aux \u00c9tats-Unis en 2004, fait \u00e9galement partie de ses sujets picturaux. D\u00e9rangeantes, ces oeuvres posent la question du traitement d\u00e9mocratique de la peinture et de la l\u00e9gitimit\u00e9 d\u2019un tel principe. Par cette iconographie controvers\u00e9e, Reis se rapproche d\u2019un Marc S\u00e9guin, dont la production r\u00e9cente comprend des toiles faites de cendres humaines et une s\u00e9rie sur le massacre des habitants d\u2019Oradour-sur-Glane, perp\u00e9tr\u00e9 en 1944 par les Nazis. Expos\u00e9e chez Trois Points, <em>Christine Chubbuck Ride Off <\/em>(2010) s\u2019inscrit dans cette veine en faisant r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 l\u2019histoire de la journaliste am\u00e9ricaine de 29 ans qui s\u2019est suicid\u00e9e en direct lors de son \u00e9mission t\u00e9l\u00e9vis\u00e9e, en 1974. Par contre, c\u2019est r\u00e9solument d\u2019un point de vue f\u00e9minin, voire f\u00e9ministe, qu\u2019elle aborde cette question, ce que rendent visible l\u2019usage de teintes pastel, de volants, de bras gracieux de <em>putti <\/em>et la pr\u00e9sence de phallus, symboles du pouvoir masculin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La violence latente des s\u00e9ries ant\u00e9rieures de Reis est davantage per-ceptible dans ce nouveau corpus o\u00f9 les organes humains, notamment les boyaux d\u2019intestin, se r\u00e9pandent librement. Dans <em>Animalism Cannibalism <\/em>(2011), un ours brun semble s\u2019en nourrir, les vitraux en arri\u00e8re-plan trans-formant la sc\u00e8ne en un commentaire sur la transsubstantiation et le sens litt\u00e9ral de la communion. L\u2019allusion au dogme religieux est encore plus marqu\u00e9e dans <em>Ichthys <\/em>(2011), qui reprend le geste associ\u00e9 \u00e0 la c\u00e9l\u00e9bration de l\u2019Eucharistie. Un poisson, symbole des premiers chr\u00e9tiens, est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 aux fid\u00e8les \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re du corps du Christ. Sa queue est prolong\u00e9e de deux t\u00eates de morts, le motif de la vanit\u00e9, \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent dans <em>Toxic Cornucupia <\/em>(2011), o\u00f9 le cr\u00e2ne est positionn\u00e9 presque de la m\u00eame fa\u00e7on que la t\u00eate d\u00e9capit\u00e9e d\u2019Holopherne.
