Exploration anthropomorphique de mondes invisibles.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Voici entre autres ce qui vient \u00e0 l\u2019esprit en d\u00e9couvrant les nouvelles \u0153uvres de David Altmejd \u00e0 la Galerie Xavier Hufkens \u00e0 Bruxelles. Figuratives en tous points. D\u00e9viantes comme l\u2019\u00e9poque, o\u00f9 l\u2019artiste juge soudain n\u00e9cessaire de revenir au corps premier, magistral. Un corps (in)humain, \u00e0 taille d\u00e9mesur\u00e9e. Un corps tritur\u00e9, recompos\u00e9. Comme si l\u2019artiste revisitait l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art, avec ce qu\u2019aujourd\u2019hui apporte d\u2019angoisses mutantes, d\u2019exp\u00e9riences g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques d\u00e9rangeantes, mal-\u00eatre \u00e9rig\u00e9 en dogme. La greffe prend-elle\u2009?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Corps hybride, l\u2019exposition elle-m\u00eame l\u2019est tout autant. C\u2019est la troisi\u00e8me exposition personnelle de Altmejd \u00e0 la Galerie Hufkens et l\u2019espace, avec ses hauts plafonds et son aura classique cadre tr\u00e8s bien avec ces constructions corporelles g\u00e9antes, jambes nerv\u00e9es de bananes en polystyr\u00e8ne, c\u0153ur ou t\u00eate de melon ou de noix de coco fich\u00e9s sur des armatures de m\u00e9tal, bras recouverts par endroits de fourrures artificielles, sexe \u00e0 la fraise cach\u00e9e&#8230; Corps de pl\u00e2tre comme d\u00e9vor\u00e9s par eux-m\u00eames, avec des mains en guise de cr\u00e2ne, des mains qui s\u2019arrachent la peau, creusent la chair, des mains dont on dirait qu\u2019elles tentent d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9ment de se modeler elles-m\u00eames un corps&#8230; \u00e0 moins qu\u2019elles ne cherchent \u00e0 l\u2019an\u00e9antir&#8230;\u2009? Corps noirs sans t\u00eate, pendus au plafond, la t\u00eate en bas, pour figurer quoi\u2009? Un danger latent pour l\u2019esp\u00e8ce\u2009? Pour le spectateur\u2009? L\u2019absurdit\u00e9 d\u2019ici-bas\u2009?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sans les sculptures massives de miroirs \u00e9clat\u00e9s, trop \u00e9videntes, un peu encombrantes et loin de la transparence revendiqu\u00e9e par l\u2019artiste lui-m\u00eame, l\u2019exposition aurait sans doute gagn\u00e9 en coh\u00e9rence. La force des corps dress\u00e9s, fiers et tortur\u00e9s, camp\u00e9s sur leur pi\u00e9destal \u00e0 l\u2019ancienne, suffisait amplement \u00e0 susciter la curiosit\u00e9. Une question demeure pourtant&nbsp;: l\u2019artiste, biologiste de formation (faut-il le rappeler\u2009?) est-il conscient de la port\u00e9e potentiellement politique de son \u0153uvre ou ne s\u2019int\u00e9resse-t-il qu\u2019\u00e0 d\u00e9cortiquer les d\u00e9tails d\u2019une \u0153uvre en d\u00e9veloppement\u2009? Il reste que son travail nous suit quand nous quittons le lieu, paraissant m\u00eame resurgir sous la plume de l\u2019\u00e9crivaine Annie Lebrun&nbsp;: \u00ab\u2009[&#8230;] il n\u2019est pas jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la venue de cr\u00e9atures hybrides entre l\u2019homme et le robot qui ne symbolise \u00e0 la fois [&#8230;] cette progression du vide \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de l\u2019homme et la menace constitu\u00e9e par des \u00eatres dont l\u2019humanit\u00e9 n\u2019est plus qu\u2019apparence\u2009\u00bb, (Annie Lebrun, <em>Perspective d\u00e9prav\u00e9e.
