Pour cette occasion, la communaut\u00e9 de la petite ville de St. Paul en Alberta s\u2019\u00e9tait distingu\u00e9e en cr\u00e9ant une piste d\u2019atterrissage pour ovni, un \u00e9pisode de la petite histoire canadienne dont Nguyen se sert pour r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir aux d\u00e9cisions politiques importantes prises au m\u00eame moment et qui marqueront le cours de la grande histoire.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>En effet, gr\u00e2ce aux documents juridiques officiels qu\u2019elle choisit d\u2019exposer, l\u2019artiste rapproche la construction de cette plateforme de l\u2019esprit d\u2019un moment singulier au Canada, celui du changement apport\u00e9 \u00e0 la loi sur l\u2019immigration. En ouvrant ses fronti\u00e8res gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une politique plus flexible, le Canada modifiait son image en promouvant le multiculturalisme, un ethos que les habitants de St. Paul semblent avoir r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 saisir \u00e0 leur mani\u00e8re par cette structure symbolique faisant de la nation non plus seulement une \u00ab\u2009Terre des Hommes\u2009\u00bb \u2013 en \u00e9cho \u00e0 l\u2019exposition universelle tenue \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e \u2013 mais \u00e9galement une terre d\u2019accueil pour toute forme de vie, terrestre et extraterrestre. L\u2019id\u00e9e, rafra\u00eechissante de na\u00efvet\u00e9, fait sourire. Pourtant, un des articles de journaux qui rapportent la pr\u00e9sence du ministre de la D\u00e9fense de l\u2019\u00e9poque, Paul Hellyer, \u00e0 l\u2019inauguration, le 3 juin 1967, fait \u00e9tat de la curieuse fiert\u00e9 qui transparaissait dans son discours\u2009\u2013\u2009un commentaire qui rend tangible le s\u00e9rieux entourant la manifestation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans la biographie de l\u2019artiste, Vox r\u00e9sume bien sa pratique artistique en pr\u00e9cisant qu\u2019elle \u00ab\u2009vise \u00e0 r\u00e9v\u00e9ler la pertinence politique d\u2019anecdotes anciennes pass\u00e9es inaper\u00e7ues ou jug\u00e9es anodines en les exploitant sous un jour nouveau\u2009\u00bb. La premi\u00e8re salle sert en quelque sorte \u00e0 donner un contexte \u00e0 la vid\u00e9o en pr\u00e9sentant d\u2019une mani\u00e8re qui se veut plus objective les donn\u00e9es de l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement mis par la suite en r\u00e9cit. La vid\u00e9o <em>1967: A People Kind of Place<\/em> joue ainsi sur la polys\u00e9mie du terme \u00ab\u2009histoire\u2009\u00bb, \u00e0 la fois narration d\u2019une exp\u00e9rience v\u00e9cue ou imaginaire (ce qui l\u2019am\u00e8ne sur le terrain de la fiction litt\u00e9raire) et discours scientifique. Le caract\u00e8re invraisemblable de l\u2019anecdote, un fait pourtant incontestable, s\u2019y trouve davantage exploit\u00e9 par Nguyen qui m\u00eale aux bandes d\u2019archives et aux commentaires de personnes impliqu\u00e9es dans le projet des effets cin\u00e9matographiques \u00e9voquant de vieux films de science-fiction.
