It extends an invitation to engage with practices that generate rather than extract, connect rather than isolate, and listen rather than impose.&nbsp;<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the curatorial leadership of Jesse James, in dialogue with Claire Shea, Fatima Bintou Rassoul Sy, and Liliana Coutinho, Walk&amp;Talk positions the Azores as a locus of relational energy rather than a remote periphery. The archipelago, geologically poised at the junction of the North American, Eurasian, and African tectonic plates, becomes a metaphor and material for the forces of collaboration, community, and exchange that underpin the project. Dispersed throughout S\u00e3o Miguel, Walk&amp;Talk encourages a peripatetic mode of engagement that leads visitors through urban centres, volcanic plains, and coastal edges. Each site\u2014conceived as a \u201cstation\u201d within the biennial\u2019s cartography\u2014invites a distinct rhythm of encounter, shaped by its local function and the sedimented histories that underlie it. Whereas some venues are conventional cultural institutions\u2014municipal galleries, contemporary art centres, cultural venues\u2014others take on expanded or unexpected roles. A former Franciscan convent becomes a site for works that explore informal and marginal modes of knowledge transmission; a tattoo parlor hosts Sofia Rocha\u2019s meditations on mineral memory and embodied listening; and within a pineapple plantation, the architect and artist Mae-ling Lokko presents <em>Smooth Cayenne Notes<\/em> (2025), a textile installation that traces the unseen affinities between the pineapple plant and other species in the botanical world. From the derelict grandeur of the Monte Palace Hotel to the geothermal intensity of hot springs, ocean pools, and lava fields, the dancers are seen moving intuitively through charged environments. Their gestures mirror the island\u2019s own vital pulse\u2014the surge of tides, the hiss of steam, the slow insistence of vegetal growth, the subterranean tremors of volcanic activity. Drawing on her visits to the island\u2019s sustainable-fish auction, Belerique transforms the market into a choreographic arena in which the circular motion of the conveyor belt becomes an allegory for the cycles of extraction, consumption, and decay that govern both human and ecological economies. Nearby, sculptural assemblages extend this meditation on infrastructure and industry. Ordinary domestic objects\u2014doors, lamps, wine glasses\u2014are delicately propped upon stacks of canned fish, their balance as fragile as the economies they evoke. The conviviality of shared meals became central to the experience of the biennial\u2019s social life, a sensorial reminder of the island\u2019s rich bounty as much as the social generosity at the heart of the Biennial\u2019s ethos.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walk&amp;Talk continues to consolidate its infrastructure as it transitions from a summer festival to a full-fledged art biennial, and <em>Gestures of Abundance<\/em> asserts itself as an ambitious and promising debut. Harnessing the Azores\u2019s unique geological, cultural, and spiritual energies, it articulates a poetics of coexistence, a reciprocity that resonates far beyond the Atlantic.
