L\u2019approche empathique de l\u2019artiste observe les fonctions inclusives et exclusives du ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne communautaire tout en misant sur la musique comme produit culturel particuli\u00e8rement globalisant et rassembleur.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p><br>L\u2019installation vid\u00e9o <em>the world won\u2019t listen<\/em> (2004-2007) montre des fans colombiens, turcs et indon\u00e9siens se livrant \u00e0 un karaok\u00e9 des succ\u00e8s du groupe The Smiths. Chant\u00e9s dans une immanquable diversit\u00e9 d\u2019accents, d\u2019attitudes et d\u2019interpr\u00e9tations, les succ\u00e8s du groupe britannique font l\u2019objet d\u2019une appropriation sinc\u00e8re et sentie. Le jeu, les postures et la candeur des interpr\u00e8tes non occidentaux d\u00e9tournent politiquement le propos m\u00e9lancolique et autrement g\u00e9n\u00e9rique des titres. Leur saisie franche et directe des codes culturels inverse en fait la dynamique de subordination culturelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>La grande acuit\u00e9 sensible de l\u2019\u0153uvre de Collins s\u2019affirme presque violemment dans l\u2019installation immersive <em>my heart\u2019s in my hand, and my hand is pierced, and my hand\u2019s in the bag, and the bag is shut, and my heart is caught<\/em> (2013). Les six postes d\u2019\u00e9coute vitr\u00e9s donnent \u00e0 entendre les enregistrements consentis et anonymes de conversations t\u00e9l\u00e9phoniques prises d\u2019une cabine gratuite offerte par Collins pr\u00e8s d\u2019un centre d\u2019h\u00e9bergement \u00e0 Cologne de m\u00eame que quelques chansons in\u00e9dites inspir\u00e9es de ces \u00e9changes. Le spectateur s\u00e9lectionne lui-m\u00eame l\u2019objet de son \u00e9coute, se laisse porter par les m\u00e9lodies contemporaines ou se glisse comme un espion au c\u0153ur de dialogues souvent tr\u00e8s \u00e9motifs. Bien qu\u2019un livret offre une traduction des conversations, la distance de la langue s\u2019estompe rapidement au contact de l\u2019\u00e9motion brute. Il approfondit cet examen du rapport entre soi et l\u2019autre avec le court-m\u00e9trage<em> the meaning of style (2011)<\/em> o\u00f9 l\u2019on suit les d\u00e9ambulations d\u2019un groupe de skinheads antifascistes malais. L\u2019amalgame des codes vestimentaires \u00e0 une id\u00e9ologie sociopolitique illustre les ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes conjoints d\u2019appartenance et de marginalit\u00e9. Les protagonistes traversent plusieurs espaces \u00e9voquant diff\u00e9rentes communaut\u00e9s ethniques, religieuses ou culturelles. L\u2019unit\u00e9 du collectif repose \u00e9loquemment sur son alt\u00e9rit\u00e9 dans l\u2019espace social comme un miroir des individualit\u00e9s qui composent aussi le communautaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>La compr\u00e9hension aig\u00fce de l\u2019habitus social par l\u2019artiste se refl\u00e8te enfin dans cette seconde \u00e9dition de <em>Bring Down The Walls <\/em>(2019) dont la programmation de conf\u00e9rences et d\u2019ateliers mensuels a \u00e9t\u00e9 adapt\u00e9e aux r\u00e9alit\u00e9s locales. La reconversion installative de ce projet d\u2019art public conserve ses vis\u00e9es \u00e9ducatives et festives initiales. Elle incarne remarquablement l\u2019engagement de Collins \u00e0 produire des lieux de rencontre et de partage. Ce dernier use en somme du pouvoir r\u00e9unificateur de la musique pour diriger l\u2019attention vers les voix invisibles dans l\u2019espace social de sorte que se r\u00e9v\u00e8le en marge de ces r\u00e9cits l\u2019accointance spontan\u00e9e du soi \u00e0 l\u2019autre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignfull is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7
