R\u00e9alis\u00e9 en collaboration avec le Centre d\u2019art Agnes Etherington, le Centre culturel canadien de Paris, le Kunstverein Braunschweig et le Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art de Joliette, l\u2019ouvrage d\u00e9cortique les enjeux soulev\u00e9s par la production engag\u00e9e de l\u2019artiste. \u00c0 travers son regard critique sur le colonialisme et l\u2019orientalisme, sur l\u2019artisanat et la mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 du travail, et sur les cons\u00e9quences de la pulsion scopique propre \u00e0 la modernit\u00e9, se tisse un discours f\u00e9ministe sur le modernisme en histoire de l\u2019art trop souvent envisag\u00e9 comme le simple \u00ab\u2009triomphe de la forme sur le contenu\u2009\u00bb. <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans <em>F\u00e9minisme, orientalisme, Kunstwollen et mim\u00e9sis culturelle intermittente chez Shannon Bool<\/em>, l\u2019\u00e9crivain et professeur Tammer El-Sheikh se penche sur ce qu\u2019il appelle \u00ab\u2009la r\u00e9ponse f\u00e9ministe \u00e0 la connaissance charnelle du modernisme\u2009\u00bb, un point de vue chez l\u2019artiste qui tend \u00e0 montrer que le corps f\u00e9minin, souvent exotique, est au c\u0153ur des recherches sur la forme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De son c\u00f4t\u00e9, l\u2019autrice de textes en prose, de po\u00e9sie et d\u2019essais Esther Kinsky s\u2019int\u00e9resse aux aspects formels et mat\u00e9riels des tapisseries r\u00e9alis\u00e9es par Bool. Dans les pages intitul\u00e9es T<em>exture de la perturbation. Les tapisseries de Shannon Bool<\/em>, elle examine le r\u00f4le de la femme dans la tradition ancestrale de la conception de tapis et leur contribution \u00e0 la \u00ab\u2009production d\u2019une texture de questionnements subversifs\u2009\u00bb. En effet, les questions \u00ab\u2009qui voit quoi\u2009? et pourquoi\u2009?\u2009\u00bb sont tr\u00e8s certainement au c\u0153ur du modernisme artistique qui propose des recherches sur ce point de vue. Alors que, dans une perspective historique, les femmes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 objets du regard, associ\u00e9es aux plaisirs coupables et confin\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019espace domestique, l\u2019autrice avance que le travail de Bool op\u00e8re un changement de perspective. Par son regard critique, l\u2019artiste remet en question non seulement la repr\u00e9sentation du corps f\u00e9minin, mais aussi la dichotomie stricte entre espace public et espace priv\u00e9 tout en laissant planer une ambig\u00fcit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Magnifique synth\u00e8se du travail de Shannon Bool, <em>Bombshell<\/em> invite \u00e0 revoir l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art sous les angles du colonialisme, de l\u2019appropriation culturelle et du f\u00e9minisme. D\u2019entr\u00e9e de jeu, la lectrice et le lecteur parcourent les repr\u00e9sentations d\u2019\u0153uvres sans autre outil que leur propre bagage culturel. Les textes qui suivent confirment les doutes et les interrogations provoqu\u00e9es par les images. Les r\u00e9f\u00e9rences \u00e0 Edward Sa\u00efd, Alo\u00efs Riegl, Freud ou Hom\u00e8re proposent un \u00e9clairage riche sur un corpus qui se veut moins d\u00e9nonciateur qu\u2019interrogateur et critique.
