Projets hybris operates at the intersection of the performing and visual arts, conceiving works that borrow in turn from the fields of theatre, music, performance, installation, militant activism, and cultural mediation. Through an aesthetic exploration of collage and accumulation, the group challenges the dogmatism of performance: it blurs the distinction between actor and public and calls on its active participation, or rejects the fixity of theatrical representation in favour of projects with multi-faceted incarnations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

projets hybris\u2019s proposals, which are unswervingly queer and feminist, examine the marginalization of these communities in the neoliberal era and provide a space in which counter discourse can evolve. Propositions for the AIDS Museum<\/em> is a series of tableaux that tackle the artistic and activist legacy of the AIDS crisis and how this heritage can reactivate queer militancy today. This seminal theme is also present in Youngnesse<\/em>, a work conceived in a post \u201cMaple Spring\u201d depression, an homage to the energy of a youth galvanized to fight against the status quo. The collective has also skillfully inserted itself into the programming of visual arts institutions\u200a\u2014\u200afor example, in the interpretation of an investigation by Dana Michel for an iteration of do it<\/em> at Galerie de l\u2019UQAM, or by imagining thegiftsofthegifted<\/em>, a five-hour performance at the PHI Foundation which addressed (among others) the dangers of perceiving art practice as a gift or vocation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The indeterminacy of the final form of the collective\u2019s works is driven by a method of collaboration developed during research residencies and periods of sustained repetition, in which great emphasis is placed on improvisation and caring. This attention to care<\/em> is at the heart of Fantaisies<\/em>, a performance that projets hybris is currently preparing: the proposal reflects on anxiety and depression, considering them as phenomena symptomatic of late capitalism. This powerful cohesion between themes and working methods is a reminder that militancy resides as much in ways of creating as in the finality of artworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
