Recognized by the scientific and artistic communities for the quality of her interactive projects that fuse architecture, the environment, and the body, Ana Rewakowicz builds bridges among science, art, and social ecology to better respond to global humanitarian and climate crises. Multidisciplinary and collaborative in her approach, Rewakowicz uses advanced technology and materials to create holistic experiences that blend imaginative sensibility with environmental militancy. Her practice, far from pure aesthetics and theory, is permeated by an osmosis of genres: poetry, sculpture, quantum physics, and ecosophy. Inspired by Buckminster Fuller\u2019s concept of synergetics and Karen Barad\u2019s theory of agential realism, Rewakowicz has focused in recent years on water as a vehicle of relationalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mist Collector<\/em> (2015\u200a\u2013\u200a20) project reiterates Rewakowicz\u2019s commitment to an environmental ethics driven by the arts. Through a series of installations created in close collaboration with physicists from the LadHyX lab at \u00c9cole Polytechnique de Paris, she reflects on Earth\u2019s dwindling fresh water sources and proposes a sustainable and ethical solution: the collection of fog. The installations Misty Way<\/em> (2016\u200a\u2013\u200a19), Porous Sail Prototype<\/em> (2015), and Nephelograph (Mist Impressions)<\/em> (2018) thus explore the hydrophilic potential of certain textile fibres to capture the microscopic droplets of water contained in fog. Misty Way<\/em> magnifies this harvesting of the infinitesimal with minimalist sensibility, projecting on suspended screens made of 120 kilometres of parallel threads sweeping images of water droplets and beams of light, which, reflected on the floor and the skin of the public, exacerbate the alienating smallness we may feel in the face of this vital yet mysterious element that traverses us all. The video Through the Looking Mist<\/em> (2014\u200a\u2013\u200a16) also contemplates this invisible relationality, visualizing the nucleation of water on fibres. Magnified and in slow motion, water droplets appear, grow on, and fall from parallel threads. For Rewakowicz, this coexistence of the intimate and the political, viewed at a different scale, opens the door to a new awareness of water, one that transcends anthropocentric considerations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
